Dec. 5 (UPI) -- When Florida State Attorney Willie Meggs cleared FSU quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault allegations on Thursday because there wasn't "sufficient evidence" to prove there had been a "forceful act,” that was hardly the end of the issue.

As has become commonplace, someone was a little over-zealous when making light of the news on social media, resulting in an offensive tweet from NBC Sports Radio that required an apology.

Although it has since been deleted, here was the content of the tweet from NBC:

“CONFIRMED: Jameis Winston gives the Heisman stiff arm to the allegations against him of sexual assault. He will not be charged.”

That tweet might have been deleted, but the apology tweets remain.

But the apologies didn’t go over so well either.

NBC’s tweet might have been in poor taste, but, to put it in perspective, there are these guys:

Winston has led the Seminoles to a 12-0 record and the No. 1 ranking in the country. If FSU beats No. 20 Duke on Saturday in the ACC championship game, the Seminoles will be playing in the Bowl Championship Series title game.

Here’s the press conference about the decision:
