Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Sheriff's deputies responded to an Indiana home to help round up a pair of unusual escaped pets: bears.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that a resident called 911 to report her two bears had escaped from their fenced-in enclosure.

Deputies responded alongside conservation officers, local police and animal experts.

"It's not like a stray dog. You can't just send one deputy out there with one of those animal catch poles," the post said.

The bears were still behind a fence on the property, but deputies worked to acquire a tranquilizer gun in case they tried to climb out.

The responders ended up not needing to use the tranquilizer, as the bears returned to their enclosure on their own, allowing deputies to close the door behind them.

The owner of the bears sustained a minor injury while trying to recapture the bears. A local exotic animal expert agreed to look after the bears while she received medical treatment.
