Rooster captured after months on the loose in Indiana

Dec. 20 (UPI) -- A rooster that eluded capture by authorities in an Indiana city for about four months has been apprehended and adopted, officials said.

Carrie Moser, senior animal control officer at the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter, said officers had been trying to catch a loose rooster dubbed Slick by locals ever since he was first spotted wandering the city in September.

"People talked to us, saying they had groups of people running around the neighborhood with blankets, jumping over fences trying to catch him," Moser told WAVE-TV. "He's just a wily little chicken."

Moser said Slick was finally captured with help from a local family that had been putting food out for the bird.

"He was very hard to catch," Moser said. "We were very happy when we finally caught him."

The shelter announced on Facebook that Slick has already found a new home.

Mona Willis of Memphis, Ind., said she saw an earlier Facebook post about Slick's capture and decided to give him a home.

"We were actually looking for one, so it was like fate!" Willis said.

She said her family's previous rooster was taken by a hawk.

"We've got the coop ready for him, we've got some cracked corn waiting, he'll be happy," Willis said. "And four hens for him, so he'll be a ladies man when he gets home."
