Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A Texas city is warning locals to be alert after a venomous cottonmouth snake was found seeking warmth in a resident's sprinkler system.

The City of Fulshear said a resident snapped photos of the potentially deadly snake coiled up for warmth right next to the knob the Cross Creek Ranch resident had been planning to turn to winterize their sprinkler system.

Officials urged anyone planning to turn their sprinkler systems off ahead of a possible freeze to "stay aware and observant."
