June 5 (UPI) -- A tanker truck lost its load of 30,000 pounds of milk when it overturned in the eastbound lanes of an Iowa highway.

The Iowa State Patrol said the truck veered to the right shoulder of U.S. Highway 34, near the Wapello County and Jefferson County line, and over-corrected back to the left, causing it to roll onto its side.

The tanker truck slid on its side for about 200 yards, investigators said.

Authorities said the truck was carrying about 30,000 pounds of milk, or about 3,500 gallons, at the time of the crash.

The remaining milk in the truck was drained into the median of the highway so the vehicle could be flipped back upright.

Two people were treated for minor injuries after the crash, police said.

Investigators said the driver will be cited for failure to maintain control.

A similar dairy spill caused problems last year in New Jersey, when a refrigerated truck delivering milk to a grocery store in Bergenfield had its doors come open, allowing 160 gallons of milk to fall out into the road.
