May 30 (UPI) -- A South Carolina woman snapped a photo of an alligator attempting to scale a high fence in her neighborhood while trying to escape from a trapper.

Shari Sebuck, the amenities director for the Planter's Point neighborhood in Mount Pleasant, said residents first reported the 7-foot alligator wandering near their homes about 6:30 a.m.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources dispatched a trapper to the area and Sebuck captured a photo of the alligator climbing a wooden fence to evade its captor.

"I didn't know alligators could scale fences!" Sebuck told WCIV-TV.

"I was taking a picture of how long the gator was, and in one fell swoop it got on top of the fence," Sebuck told WCSC-TV. "I have never in my life seen a gator scale a fence. I didn't know they could do that."

The alligator was captured about 10 a.m. Sebuck said it was the fifth alligator removed from the neighborhood so far this spring.
