Customers, employees remember closed Target with candlelight vigil

Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Fans of big box retailer Target gathered outside of a location in Kansas prior to its last day in business to hold a candlelight vigil.

The vigil, which began as a joke event on Facebook, ended up drawing about 20 Target mourners to the Hutchinson store on Friday to remember the beloved retailer before it closed for good on Saturday.

The mourners included some who identified themselves as Target employees and a couple of the participants dressed in the store's khaki pants and red shirt combo.

Video from the event reveal some of the participants in the vigil made their candles the last purchase they ever made from the Target location on Saturday, while others admitted they bought their candles at competing store Walmart.

One clip shows the Target mourners blasting "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic.

Josh Redd, one of the organizers of the event on Facebook, said it started as a joke on the social media site when the store's closing was announced in November, but the post went viral and it ended up as a real event.
