Wolf recaptured after escape from British sanctuary

Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Police in Britain said a wolf that escaped from a sanctuary when wind damaged its fence was "safely recaptured" without any injury to the animal.

Thames Valley Police sent a text message Thursday morning to Berkshire residents warning them of a wolf on the loose after strong winds damaged the fence at the Wolf Conservation Trust's site in Beenham.

Students at nearby schools were kept inside and parents said officers were present during the morning drop-off at one school to escort children into the building.

Police announced on Twitter that the wolf, named Torak, was captured in the early afternoon Thursday.

"A wolf in West Berkshire which had escaped has been recaptured unharmed," police tweeted.

"Thank you to everyone in the community for your patience and understanding while we were dealing with the incident," police said in a follow-up tweet. "Schools, which were asked to keep pupils indoors, no longer need to do this."
