Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A Maryland man who won a $50,000 lottery jackpot said his winning numbers came from an unusual source -- a scratch-off ticket.

The Allegany County man, who branded himself "The Minute Man" in honor of the New England Patriots, told Maryland Lottery officials the numbers he played for the Bonus Match 5 drawing -- 3, 15, 18, 24, 33 and Bonus Ball 10 -- came from a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket.

The man, a Cresaptown nail salon owner, said he plans to use his winnings to pay off some debt and improve his family's finances.

Weis Markets, where the man purchased his ticket, was awarded a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
