Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A Canadian fire chief shared video of a firefighter crawling out onto a frozen creek to rescue a dog that fell through the thin ice.

Swift Current Fire Chief Denis Pilon posted a video to Facebook showing the rescue of the dog that fell through the ice after running out onto the frozen Saskatchewan creek.

The video shows a firefighter attached to a rope slide out onto the ice on his belly to reach the canine.

The firefighter starts to pull the dog out of the water, but briefly falls in himself.

The man is able to get himself and the canine back onto the ice and they are towed back to shore via the rope.

"Yesterday afternoon, our firefighters were busy at the creek, rescuing someone's pet," Pilon wrote. "They allowed their dog to run off leash when it ventured our onto the ice and fell through. Quick action calling the fire department helped save their pet. Please keep your pets and children away from the Creek, the ice is thin and it is NOT safe."
