Helping out grandma leads man to $100,000 lottery prize

Dec. 1 (UPI) -- A Maryland man said helping his grandmother run errands paid off big time when he won a $100,000 lottery prize.

The 22-year-old Baltimore man said he went with his father to visit his grandma, and she asked him to run some errands that included a trip to Julia's Bytes store in Woodlawn.

The man said his grandmother asked him to pick up five $2 Gifts Galore scratch-off tickets and he decided to buy a $10 $100,000 Crossword scratch-off for himself.

"When you have a grandma who plays the Lottery, you play the Lottery too!" he said.

The man said he and his grandmother scratched the tickets in the parking lot and he was shocked to see he had won $10,000.

"I had to have my grandma verify that I won $10,000, since she's a pro at these," he said. "When she said I did win, I said, 'Man, you know what I can do with $10,000!' Then, I noticed that the ticket wasn't fully scratched. When I saw I actually won $100,000, I couldn't believe it!"

The man said he is considering spending some of the money on a new car and going back to college.
