Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Residents of a Louisiana neighborhood are trying to determine the origins of an unusual visitor -- an iguana.

Andrew Weber said his grandmother found the 2-1/2-foot iguana wandering around her front yard in the Southdowns area of Baton Rouge.

"She told me she almost stepped on something. I walked out and it was so unexpected to see an iguana," Weber told WBRZ-TV.

"She said she found an iguana I thought it would be a few inches long," neighbor Jeanne Fellows said.

Fellows posted a photo of the lizard on a local lost pets Facebook group in the hopes of finding its owner.

"It looks healthy, it looks like someone's pet," Fellows said. "I certainly don't think it lives out here."

Fellows said the iguana will be cared for by the Louisiana State University veterinary school until its owner can be found.
