Oct. 26 (UPI) -- An Illinois restaurant has put a unique twist on a seasonal favorite by serving a clear pumpkin pie.

Simon Davies, a chef at Chicago's Alinea, shared a short video previewing the tiny clear pumpkin pie slice for the fall menu.

"Pumpkin pie for the fall menu," Davies wrote alongside the hashtag "#surrealism"

Davies held up and rotated the small transparent slice with a tiny dollop of whipped cream on top.

Several baffled Instagram commenters asked the chef how he achieved the curious confection.

"It is a distillation of pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, and clove. Texture is very important to us," he told one commenter. "This melts away. If it were over-gelled it would not be worth serving. The main texture that brings on nostalgia is from the pate brisee.'

The impressive pie will be available at Alinea for the remainder of the fall season.
