Oct. 11 (UPI) -- An alligator spotted sunning itself on a busy roadway in Alabama was dragged across a street by police and wildlife officers before being released into the water.

Instagram user that_diamond_needle_band posted a photo to the site showing the "danger lizard" basking in the sun on Sunday morning in the middle of the Mobile Bay Causeway in Spanish Fort.

"Traffic went to a single lane so he could chill in the sun for a bit," the user wrote.

Jack Helean captured video of police and state wildlife officers dragging the alligator from the causeway to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, where it was released.

"Spanish Fort PD just stopped traffic, dragged an alligator across the causeway & put him back in Mobile Bay right in front of me!" Helean tweeted.

The causeway had previously been closed temporarily due to flooding from Hurricane Nate.
