"She thought she was a suspect DUI driver but it was a traffic stop that changed her life," the station said.
Bowes snuck up behind his girlfriend and took one knee behind her as she participated in a sobriety test.
Bowes settled into place as another deputy, who was in on the stunt, instructed his girlfriend to turn around where she saw her soon-to-be fiance presenting her with an engagement ring.
She shouted with excitement before kneeling down to embrace Bowes.
"Is that a yes?" he joked.
The sheriff's office congratulated the couple on their engagement and Bowes for completing the elaborate stunt.
"Congratulations to future Mrs. Deputy Bowes," the station said. " We are so happy for you brother, and thank you for allowing us to be part of this wonderful moment. Welcome to the Tan and Green family, and may you have a wonderful life together."
