Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A Southern California man is live-streaming his round-the-clock stay in an animal shelter cage to raise funds for shelter animals and Tropical Storm Harvey victims.

Elton Castee started his project Sunday in a cage at the SPCA Los Angeles and his YouTube live-stream of his stay helped him to raise his initial goal of $100,000 for the shelter.

Castee has since increased his goal to $150,000 so he can donate $50,000 of the money to victims of Tropical Storm Harvey in Texas.

"I don't leave under any circumstance," Castee told KABC-TV. "I have a little hole back there. That's where I do my privacy stuff -- bathroom and changing all that."

He said the project was initially born out of his desire to give back to the SPCA after he adopted a dog from the group several years ago and the canine proved to be a faithful best friend until its death last year.

"Elton has really sacrificed his personal comforts to do this fundraiser," said Ana Bustilloz, director of communication and marketing for the SPCA LA.

"This donation is so significant and we are forever grateful for him doing this. And also to his fans because they're the ones that are spreading the word and asking people to donate," she said.
