Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A reporter in California had a startling encounter with a flying cockroach seeking its moment in the spotlight.

The large roach flew onto KTLA reporter Mary Beth McDade's dress prior to a live shot, as seen in video shared by producer Marcus Wilson-Smith.

Shortly after the roach landed on McDade the startled reporter began shouting and attempting to brush the flying pest away with her microphone and clipboard.

Clearly shaken by the unexpected visitor, she began shouting before stopping to poke fun at a member of the station staff who quickly rushed to help her scare away the roach.

"Meantime Greg's coming to get it off my chest," McDade said.

Many viewers applauded McDade for handling the situation so calmly, and said she appeared poised when the segment eventually went to air.
