July 18 (UPI) -- A San Francisco art museum gathered 2,405 people to break the Guinness World Record for largest human flower formation.

The Asian Art Museum said it dressed the 2,405 participants in green and pink ponchos and had them form into the shape of a lotus flower at about noon Sunday in Civic Center Plaza.

The attempt, which {marks the 50th anniversary of San Francisco's Summer of Love and promotes the museum's "Flower Power" exhibition, beat the previous Guinness World Record of 2,297 people forming the shape of a flower in Rochester, N.Y., California Patch reported.

The record was verified at about 1:20 p.m., after organizers recruited passers-by to boost their numbers, museum officials said.
