July 18 (UPI) -- A pair of lobster fishermen were filmed freeing a young seal that was trapped in fishing gear with only its head sticking out from the tangle.

Jeremy Willey, 37, said he was fishing Friday about 10 to 12 miles south of Matinicus Rock with his girlfriend, Krystal Gamage, and his sternman, Jeffrey Door, 36, when they spotted a seal floating in some ground fishing gear.

Door pulled the seal aboard and Gamage filmed as the two men set about cutting it free from its bindings.

Video Gamage posted to Facebook shows Willey carefully cutting through the rope, which was wrapped around the seal's neck, until the creature is freed and released back into the water.

Gamage said the seal appeared to be a juvenile and Willey estimated it weighed about 25 pounds.
