Delaware pizzeria makes delivery to stalled Amtrak train

May 16 (UPI) -- "Hangry" passengers on a train stranded for several hours in Delaware got a reprieve from their appetites when a delivery driver brought them pizza.

Mitch Katz posted a video to Twitter showing Jim Leary, a delivery driver for Dom's NY Style Pizzeria, delivering two pies to passengers on the stranded Amtrak train near Wilmington Sunday.

"Stuck on @amtrak 161 got hangry and problem solved," Katz wrote.

It was unclear who actually ordered the pizzas, but Twitter user Logan McHugh said it was his brother, Wade, and posted screenshots of digital credit card receipts showing the charge from Dom's.

Leary said the person who took the call at Dom's asked him if it was even possible to deliver to "a stuck train."

"Oh yeah. We can do it," Leary recalled saying.

"It was funny," Leary told The Washington Post of the unusual delivery. He said he had to park on a dead-end street and navigate his way around some houses and fenced-in yards to reach the home.

"The guy was waving and saying 'I'm down here,'" Leary said. "I told him, 'I'll be there in a minute.'"

Leary said one of the passengers tipped him with a $20 bill when they realized he had brought them paper plates.

"It was easy money," said Leary, who has been delivering pizzas for 18 years.

Katz's video went viral on Twitter, but not everyone is laughing.

"We know train delays can be frustrating, but it is extremely dangerous to approach a train on the tracks. We are glad no one was hurt and hope this is not tried again in the future," Amtrak spokeswoman Chelsea Kopta said.

Kopta said Amtrak apologized for the "inconvenience" to passengers on the train, which had been heading from Boston to Washington, D.C. The passengers eventually arrived in Washington about three hours late.
