May 12 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida foiled a nighttime burglary attempt by an alligator caught trying to break into a Venice resident's screen porch.

The City of Venice posted a photo to Facebook showing four police officers posing with the 9-foot, 6-inch alligator caught after a resident reported hearing sounds coming from outside their screened-in back porch.

The city said the officers helped Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers with the capture after the noise was determined to be an alligator trying to break through a screen to gain access to the resident's lanai.

A follow-up Facebook post included video of the capture.

The city said the alligator was taken away by the trapper to be relocated.
