Cook said the buck was "abnormally friendly" and "loves getting scratched," as the video showed the animal calmly grazing the leaves as he gently stroked its neck.
Cook's friend, Leon Champine, told Fox59 their hunting group encountered the buck and another young deer hours later and the pair remained extraordinarily friendly.
"I believe this is their first season without following mom around to teach them what is dangerous," Champine said. "I also believe that they were just simply inquisitive."
The group managed to successfully harvest a turkey, but Champine said the encounter with the deer was the highlight of the trip.
"It was truly a once in a lifetime encounter that I am incredibly fortunate enough to have captured on my phone," he said.
