April 21 (UPI) -- A New York woman arrived home from two-month trip to find she had a new roommate, a pigeon nesting in her pasta strainer.

Genevieve Roman, 33, made the best of her new living arrangement and created an Instagram page to profile the daily life of her new pigeon tenant, which she named Adelaide.

"Built a nest in a colander in a stranger's kitchen when she was out of town for two months and left the window cracked," the pigeon's profile description states.

In her first post, Roman noted that pigeons mate for life and speculated there must be a male pigeon nearby to complete the "adorable" pigeon family.

Roman told Patch she suspected the presence of a bird in her apartment when she arrived home to the sound of wings flapping.

"Then I noticed a couple sticks on my stove, and a few little bits of down on my kitchen floor," she said. "Then I saw the sticks poking out of the pasta strainer — and when I looked inside, I saw the eggs."

A self-proclaimed animal lover, Roman tried to bring the pigeon and its growing family to an animal shelter but couldn't find a shelter willing to keep the family together.

"Basically everyone told me in this particular case, if there were chicks without a parent I can take them in," she told the New York Post.

In the meantime she's decided to let the mother and her eggs maintain their residence, while allowing the pigeon to come and go as she pleases.

"I haven't done anything yet," Roman said. "She's still in my apartment."

Roman said she plans to keep the pigeon around at least until the eggs hatch, and noted so far she's been an amicable roommate.

"She is a pretty nice roommate and doesn't get on my nerves such as every other roommate I've had," she said.
