Runaway piglet brings England highway to a standstill

April 12 (UPI) -- An escaped pig in England brought traffic to a standstill after wandering onto a local highway on Tuesday.

Highways England said the pig was spotted on M62 south of Leeds and stopped traffic for about an hour.

Police closed the road at 7:20 p.m. after receiving calls about the pig and managed to capture it at about 8:30 p.m.

West Yorkshire Police Road Policing Unit said the seven week-old male piglet had escaped from a moving vehicle and was later returned to its owner.

"We are pleased to report that the escaped [pig] on the M62 J29-28 has been safely rounded up," police said.
