March 14 (UPI) -- Officials with the Indian Forest Service rushed to a village where a lioness had wandered off of a nature preserve and fallen into a dry well.

Villagers in Adsang village, located near Gir National Park, contacted the Forest Service on Friday afternoon when the female lion was found trapped in a dry well on a farm.

Officials responded and used ropes and the metal frame of a cot to pull the big cat to safety.

The officials said the lioness did not appear to be severely injured and was expected to recover quickly.
