March 14 (UPI) -- A daredevil in New Zealand was filmed rappelling down the wall of a large dam to ride the rapids in an inflatable tube.

A video posted to Facebook by West Auckland Updates shows the helmet-wearing man rappelling down a wall of the Lower Nihotupu Dam with an inflated black inner tube slung around his shoulder.

The man jumps into the tube at the bottom of the dam and rides off in the rapids.

A commenter who claims to have witnessed the event said the man climbed back up after his tubing adventure to repeat the stunt a total of three times.

"Someone has gone down the Lower Nihotupu Dam on a tyre tube!" the West Auckland Updates post said. "This is not safe!"

Commenters were split between those branding the daredevil a "legend" for his bravery and those considering him an "idiot" for putting himself in danger.
