March 1 (UPI) -- A witness to a Louisiana police chase captured video of a stolen Toyota Tacoma taking a Dukes of Hazzard style flight through the air at the end of the pursuit.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said a deputy pulled over a Toyota Tacoma in Dixie Inn for speeding on U.S. Highway 371, and the truck's passenger slid into the driver's seat and sped off while the deputy was talking to the original driver outside the vehicle.
The man, Kevonte Dekorey Austin, 18, led police on a chase to that reached speeds of up to 115 mph.
The chase, which saw Austin lead deputies to Springhill before heading back toward Dixie Inn, came to an end when the Tacoma hit spike strips laid on the road by police.
The impact with the strips sent the pickup truck off the road, up a small incline and flying through the air in a moment that was caught on camera by a witness.
The pickup truck landed on an occupied Toyota Corolla in a restaurant parking lot. The driver of the car was able to climb out through the passenger seat and was unharmed.
Sexton said Austin, who was also uninjured, had been wanted ever since he escaped custody while on work release Feb. 8. Police suspect he stole a 2009 Ford Ranger from Shreveport's Halco Productions, where he had been doing his work release.
The Toyota Tacoma Austin used to lead deputies on the chase was found to have been stolen, Sexton said.
