Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A fishing group composed of U.S. service members and their families landed a 10-foot, 2-inch mako shark off the Florida coast. American Yakers, a Florida fishing charter group that offers free charters to U.S. service members, veterans, and their families, said a group made up of vets and their families landed the charter company's first-ever mako shark while fishing from shore in Navarre, in the Florida Panhandle. Advertisement The group said it took about 2 hours to reel in the big shark. American Yakers said it specializes in helping veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues associated with their time in the military. "Fishing with vets who share the same issues tends to help with the communication," the group told WEAR-TV. "We can relate with each other. We don't force conversation about our issues." The group said the mako was large enough for regulations to allow them to keep and harvest the shark.
