Wandering pig in Minnesota taken to local humane society

Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A pig found wandering around a Minnesota neighborhood was sent local humane society after being captured by police.

Albert Lea Police Department shared a photo of the prowling pig as it used its snout to inspect a yard in a local neighborhood.

"Here piggy, piggy...anyone missing a pig in the Virginia Pl. area?" Police said.

It took police about an hour to capture the pig, which was later taken to the Humane Society of Freeborn County, according to KAAL.

The pig was the first the humane society had ever taken in and provided a unique set of problems for staff.

"We're not exactly equipped, especially with kennels full of dogs. So right now, we have a temporary housing situation out in our back kennels. But we have a winter storm approaching so we are going to bring him in and get that set up this afternoon," Christa DeBoer of the humane society said.

DeBoer also told KIMT3 they were not sure where the pig came from, but she believes he'll be comfortable until they are able to find him a permanent home.

"We're all scrambling a little bit to try to figure out what to do and how to keep him comfortable. So right now he's in a dog area, he likes the dog beds. He thinks they're pretty cozy, so he's got a blanket and a dog bed and he seems pretty happy," she said.
