DERBYSHIRE , England, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A woman in the United Kingdom is seeking crowdfunding to help house a cow she adopted away from a slaughterhouse.

Trisha Boyko created a page on crowdfunding site "JustGiving" where she sought 1,500 pounds ($1,837 USD) to pay for a new field for Jean Jeanie, a cow she recently rescued from a slaughterhouse.

Boyko met Jean Jeanie in 2015 and began feeding her vegetables and created a Facebook page for the cow encouraging others to do the same.

"I felt so sorry for her when she was on her own," Boyko told the BBC. "I couldn't wait to get down there to see her to see if she was alright. She lit my days up and I'd like to think I cheered her up, especially because they're herd animals."

About a year later Jean Jeanie's field was closed and she was forced to move to her owner's garden, where she stayed for three months before Boyko heard she was scheduled to be sent to a slaughterhouse.

"To cut a long story short I approached her owner and after a couple of weeks consideration he said I could have her," she said. "Throughout all this time there was another couple who said they were happy to go halves with her upkeep."

Boyko registered herself as a livestock keeper, coordinated with a farm and got Jean Jeanie vaccinated only to learn the other couple was no longer able to pay their share of the cost.

This caused her to turn to JustGiving where she exceeded her original goal by raising 1,862 pounds ($2,278 USD).

"I promised both myself and Jeanie that I would not let her down. I am not a quitter and I am doing all I can to raise the money to keep her in her new home," Boyko said. "She has had a lonely existence the majority of the time I have known her and for the first time in a long time she finally has some company and is able to be what she deserves to be, a herd animal."
