Two-headed calf learns to walk and eat at Kentucky farm

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A Kentucky couple said what initially appeared to be twin calves having a cuddle was actually a newborn cow with two heads.

Stan McCubbin said he was walking his property Friday near Campbellsville when he noticed the aftermath of one of his cows having given birth.

"From a distance, I thought I had twins lying together," McCubbin told WDRB-TV. "I saw two noses. I thought it was twins and then when I saw her, I was just completely blown away."

The "her" turned out to be a two-headed calf McCubbin and his wife, Brandy, dubbed "Lucky" at the urging of their daughter.

"I said she was lucky to live, and our little five-year-old, Kenley, said 'That's her name -- Lucky,'" Brandy McCubbin said. "She is lucky and we're blessed to have this happen on our farm."

The McCubbins said Lucky is able to walk, but has trouble not walking in circles. They said she only has one working eye on each head and her mouths move in unison when she eats.

"I'm just thinking, 'How many days do we have?' and I mean, it's a blessing that we get to go through this with our children and our family and it's just something unique and rare," Brandy McCubbin said.

The couple said Lucky appears healthy for the moment and is slowly figuring out how to compensate for her issues.

"Lucky took more steps today and seems to be moving forward rather then in a circle," Brandy McCubbin said in a Facebook post Monday. "She stood longer and ate much quicker! God has blessed us with His beautiful creation!"
