KONA, Hawaii, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Participants in Hawaii's upcoming Ironman World Championship stripped to their skivvies for the annual pre-triathlon Underpants Run.

The participants, mostly Ironman triathlon competitors, donned nothing but their underwear Thursday in Kona to run a mile and a half race with no real winners, except maybe for the gawkers.

"There was a lot of eye candy for everybody, men and women," participant Amy Olin of San Luis Obispo, Calif., told West Hawaii Today.

The race featured a number of people wearing ornate undergarments, as well as some arguably overdressed runners in full costumes. One runner, Greg Scott, juggled through the entire run.

"The disadvantage of juggling the whole way was I couldn't look around at the people as much," said Scott, who is also from San Luis Obispo. "It was hard to see all the other costumes."

Scott said he wasn't embarrassed to be seen in his underthings, which he said are actually more modest than his triathlon gear.

"I'm probably wearing more clothes now," he said. "My running shorts are shorter than these."

The Underpants Run is billed as an "unofficial ice-breaker" ahead of the Ironman event and raises money for a number of local charities.
