A neighbor who helped Poe remove a much smaller snake from her apartment a few weeks ago said Monday night's incident marked the fourth time a snake has been found in the woman's home.
"She's really scared," the neighbor, who wanted to be identified only as C.P., told DNAinfo. "I mean, everyone's worried. People don't even want to sit down on the toilet no more."
Animal Care and Control said workers "impounded the python and will transfer it to the Chicago Herpetological Society for housing and care."
Neighbors said a former building tenant on the third floor moved out recently after they were found to be breeding snakes, a violation of the building's no pets policy.
Neighbor Carolyn Sims said more than a dozen dead snakes were removed from the former tenant's apartment after they moved out of the building.
Eastlake Management Group, the building's management company, said a pest control company will inspect the building to make sure all of the snakes are gone.
Experts said the ball pythons pose no risk to humans.
