EAST HAMPTON, N.Y., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Ocean researchers live-streaming their expedition in New York waters recorded the moment they captured and tagged a baby great white shark.

The Ocearch research group, which is conducting its first research in New York waters, captured a baby shark about 20 minutes into their Facebook Live video Friday.

The video shows the shark being pulled from the water and released after being outfitted with a tracker.

The baby shark was dubbed Montauk in honor of a Long Island American Indian tribe.

"She is a young of the year and will add to data that will determine the birthing site for the Atlantic White Shark," the group said in a Facebook post.

Ocearch said Montauk's tracker, which can be viewed online, "pinged" near the hamlet of Montauk, on the eastern tip of Long Island, five times in the 24 hours after her capture.
