PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., May 11 (UPI) -- An animal-loving pro golfer who saw a baby blue jay plunge into a pond stripped down to his underwear and jumped in after the distressed avian.

The Ziegler Golf School said in a Facebook post that Greg Owen was practicing for the upcoming Players Championship Monday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., when he and fellow pro Brandt Snedeker noticed the baby bird had fallen from its nest in a tree near the 16th hole.

The men saw the bird try to cross the pond, but have great difficulty swimming.

A video accompanying the post shows the 125th-ranked golfer strip down to his underwear and wade across the pond to rescue the baby bird.

There's no word on whether Owen's feat led him to mark the 16th hole as a "birdie."
