Tiny kitten rescued from van engine in London

LONDON, April 6 (UPI) -- Firefighters in London were able to rescue a kitten after it ran out onto a local street and became trapped in the engine of a British Gas van.

Photos shared by London fire brigade show Watch Manager Thomas Wolfe and the rest of the crew posing with the kitten after he spent 45 minutes working to free the animal from the engine.

"It was such a tiny kitten it was quite hard to find as it had got itself right into the engine," Wolfe said. "In my 20 years as a firefighter this is only the second cat I've had to rescue. It goes to show that the old stereotype about firefighters always rescuing cats is nonsense!"

The male kitten was given the name "Wolfie" in honor of Wolf's work to rescue the kitten after the RSPCA were unable to find him.

Wolfie was sent to Putney Animal Hospital and is set to make a full recovery according to RSPCA animal collection officer Jill Sanders.

He'll be placed up for adoption if no owners come forward and already has an admirer in British Gas manager Kevin Richards.

"He's a beautiful black fluffy kitten, with big blue eyes. If I manage to convince my wife, I'd love to adopt him if his owners don't come forward," he said.
