University of Maryland shirts at Walmart bear shape of Massachusetts

SEVERN, Md., April 5 (UPI) -- Walmart's Twitter account said the company is "embarrassed" after another user pointed out the chain's University of Maryland shirts bear the shape of Massachusetts.

Twitter user Samantha Ficco posted on the microblogging site March 30 with a photo of the shirt, which bears the university's logo and the word "Terps" inside the outline of a state, along with photos showing the state bears a stronger resemblance to Massachusetts than Maryland.

Ficco said the shirt was discovered for sale at the Walmart in Severn, Md.

"Dear @Walmart I want to inform you that you're selling UMD shirts with the state of Massachusetts on them," Ficco wrote.

A Walmart social media manager named Marie initially tried to downplay the seeming error.

"On the map, MA and MD are shaped somewhat similarly with the exception of that dip. Thanks for reaching out, Samantha!" the tweet reads.

"The state of Maryland is shaped to dip down on the right hand side which includes the word 'Terps' for the team," Marie wrote in a second tweet.

However, further pressure from Twitter users taking Ficco's side led another Walmart representative, Sonny, to acknowledge the error.

"We're so embarrassed we may never stick our head out of our shell again! Thanks for guiding this lost Terrapin back to MD!" the tweet reads.
