TACOMA, Wash., April 5 (UPI) -- The Washington State Patrol shared photos of a hapless bald eagle that was injured when a low swoop took it directly into a truck's windshield.

Trooper Russ Winger, public information officer for the WSP District 8, tweeted a photo Tuesday of the truck driver holding the eagle in the cab of his vehicle after the 7:30 a.m. collision on Washington State Route 16.

"This awesome raptor was flying too low this am on SR16 and collided with a truck. Hopefully we can save him," Winger tweeted.

The driver summoned state troopers, who called a state wildlife agent to the scene.

"You can't rock a name like Haliaeetus leucocephalus and not be awesome," Winger tweeted.

The trooper said the eagle was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation facility for treatment. The tweet included a photo of the truck's near-shattered windshield with the eagle visible inside the vehicle.
