GUNDAROO, Australia, March 30 (UPI) -- An Australian wombat sanctuary shared video of a rescue of an elderly wombat that the sanctuary's owner said embodies "the true beauty of nature."

The video, posted to Facebook by the Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary, shows facility owner Donna Steppan gently cradling an elderly male wombat and giving him some medicine.

Steppan said the wombat was apparently injured in a territorial confrontation with another male wombat before he was found hiding on an elderly couple's veranda.

"Yes, young wombats have a 100 score on the cuteness scale BUT I believe the true beauty of nature lies within old wombats," Steppan wrote. "This is an old beaten up male wombat who has come in. Knowing what they have endured and survived to get to 'old age' is the incredible part. There is an undeniable beauty in old animals."
