Lioness puts kibosh on mating attempt by 'embarrassed' lion

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, South Africa, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A visitor to a South African park captured footage of a female lion issuing a strong rebuke to a male who attempted to initiate mating without her approval.

The video, filmed Feb. 18 in Kruger National Park, shows the lioness and lion resting at the side of the road before the male stands up and walks around to the female's rear.

The male sniffs the female's backside to initiate a mating ritual, but the female shows her disinterest by roaring and swatting at the male, who quickly retreats.

"One can clearly see the embarrassment on his face," the uploader wrote.
