MONTREAL, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A Montreal man revealed the technique behind viral videos of camera-stealing squirrels by enticing one of the animals to carry his camera up a tree.

David Freiheit, whose video of a GoPro-stealing squirrel carrying his camera up a tree and dropping it went viral in November 2014, posted a new video Sunday showing his foolproof method for attracting squirrels to his camera.

Freiheit shows how he attaches some granola to the top of the camera and sets it down near some trees.

A squirrel soon takes the bait and carries the camera up a tree. The video shows the theft from the perspective of the pilfered camera as well as a camera mounted to Freiheit's head.

The camera falls as the squirrel finishes off the granola.

"Warning: If you try this, be prepared to lose your camera," a disclaimer on the video reads.
