Cicada sheds nymph exoskeleton in time-lapse footage

ALICE SPRINGS, Australia, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A resident of Australia's Northern Territory captured time-lapse video of a nymph cicada shedding its exoskeleton to emerge as an adult.

Mark Anderson of Alice Springs posted a video to Facebook that speeds up the cicada's hour-long process to about 30 seconds.

The cicada in the video sheds its nymph exoskeleton and emerges as an adult.

The insect coming-of-age took place Jan. 16, the uploader said.
