GAINESVILLE, Fla., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- University of Florida students had their picnic interrupted by none other than the school's mascot, as video shows a gator crawling from a nearby lake onto their blanket.
The gator snuck up while UF student Michael Tamayo and a friend were having a picnic at Lake Alice on the university's campus.
The video shows the gator crawling up to Tamayo's blanket and chomping down on his sandwich.
A third student, Richard Reed Jr., captured the video as Tamayo turned away from his blanket to take a photo of Reed and his wife.
UF researcher Kent A. Vilet told WUFT that gators in the area have come searching for snacks before, as a nearly identical situation happened almost two years ago.
After capturing the video the students managed to send the gator away safely.
