NAPA, Calif., April 6 (UPI) -- The California Highway Patrol shared photos of a baby owl rescued by a motorist and transported to an animal hospital by a CHP officer.

The CHP said in a Facebook post that Officer Garrett Ray was flagged down Saturday about 1 p.m. by a motorist in Napa who said he had found a young owl that appeared to be unable to fly.

Ray retrieved the owl from the motorist's truck and determined it was likely too young to fly. He brought the bird back to the CHP office in Napa and it was placed in a crate for safer transport to the Silverado Veterinary Hospital.

The hospital will care for the owl until it is large enough to fly and survive in the wild on its own, the CHP said.
