Alligator captured on screened porch in Florida

JENSEN BEACH, Fla., April 2 (UPI) -- An alligator spotted wandering a Florida town for several days was finally captured after it broke into a resident's screened porch.

Residents of the Portofino condominium complex in Jensen Beach said the 8-foot alligator was seen wandering their neighborhood for several hours Wednesday before breaking into a resident's screened porch in an apparent attempt to get into the building.

Jerry Smifsud, who moved into the neighborhood from Pennsylvania two years ago, said the alligator had been spotted in the area a few times prior to Wednesday.

"The other story we heard after he came back last Saturday, the gator came out of the water and walked over to the gas station," Smifsud told WPBF-TV. "It was unbelievable."

A Portofino property manager said the alligator was captured and relocated.

The alligator's visit came less than a month after a large alligator compared to a "dinosaur" was photographed crossing the green at the Myakka Pines Golf Club  in Englewood, Fla.
