Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe ONTARIO, Calif., March 19 (UPI) -- A motorcyclist who led police on a high-speed chase through the suburbs of Los Angeles showed off daredevil tricks for authorities before surrendering. Authorities said the chase began in Highland when police attempted to pull the motorcyclist over for reckless driving and the chase was joined by a helicopter, at least two California Highway Patrol officers on motorcycles and four motorcycle officers from other departments when the suspect continued to flee through Pomona. Advertisement The suspect waved to police, made what appeared to be rude gestures and performed daredevil stunts including standing up on his seat during the pursuit, which repeatedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. Police said they cornered the motorcyclist on a dead-end street at one point during the pursuit, but he was able to ride through police, narrowly missing an officer who opened the door of a patrol vehicle to confront the man. The chase ended when the motorcyclist pulled into a gas station in Ontario. The chase also took the suspect and police through San Dimas, Pomona, Claremont and La Verne. The suspect was identified as Phillip Resendez, 22. He was taken to the West Valley Detention Center on charges of failure to yield and driving on the wrong side of the road during a pursuit.
