Hippo caught on camera lunging at tour boat in Zambia

LUANGWA, Zambia, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A tour guide taking video in Zambia captured the moment a massive hippopotamus sped through a lake and surfaced just behind his boat.

Michael Varndell, a tour guide with Malawian Style Safaris/South Luangwa Safaris, took video of a large shape moving underwater toward his boat at an accelerated pace in Lake Kariba. The video shows the boat's driver gunning the engine just as the hippo surfaces right behind the vessel.

"Nothing like getting too close for comfort," Varndell said in the description of the video he posted to Facebook Wednesday.
