When the pair demanded cash, she handed over doughnuts instead of dough.
"They wanted $20. They said we know you have $20," bakery owner George Guegold told the Mansfield News Journal. "Mom gave them each a glazed doughnut."
The suspects departed without doing the elderly woman any harm, but she was sent home to rest as a precaution.
"The good news is mom was unhurt," Guegold said. "She got a little shook. Mom called police and called me. It all happened so fast."
It's unclear whether the suspects enjoyed their doughnuts, which were made from scratch, or if they would have preferred a strudel or piece of Danish coffee cake.
