According to police, Smith was staying at the home and decided to dump hot sauce all over the place at some point during the night. After dumping the spicy sauce, the 21-year-old "burned the coffee table, cabinet, fridge and wall," before putting out the blaze.
When his hosts awoke, Smith was gone.
In addition to the hot sauce, there was also evidence that Smith used butane and cooking spray to help the fire spread.
"We believe he just needed a release," Officer Katie Flood told the Lincoln Journal Star.
The fire caused about $500 worth of damage.
