Underneath Collier's piece, which actually argued that "far right voters hate Obama because he is black," the paper ran another op-ed written by African-American columnist Alvin Hall called, "The Headline Offends Me."
The paper's editor, George Capsis, attempted to explain the use of the word.
"The editorial staff continues to object" to the use of the word, Capsis wrote, the New York Post reported. "In this article, however, Jim reminded me that The New York Times avoids using the word which convinced me that WestView should."
20,000 copies of the paper are distributed across the West Village, Greenwich Village and Chelsea each month.
"Our dedicated writers and photographers report, review and analyze with the commitment and responsibility that only those affected by the stories can share," according to the WestView News website.
